Testimonials

“The Pantomime at Whitley Bay has quickly become a tradition for my family, Steve Walls then fish and chips on the sea front is now the start of Christmas for me. This year Steve Walls was Simple Simon and he delivers his one-liners to perfection”

Teesdale Mercury

“For the second year in succession, local lad Steve Walls returns to the Playhouse panto in the role of principal comic. Having excelled as Muddles in last year’s production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, this year he takes the role of Wishee Washee and ups his game yet again. It is with total expertise that he establishes a rapport with the children in the audience, who are all thrilled to be part of his ‘gang’, yet his near-the-knuckle gags (which go straight over the kids’ heads) make him a firm favourite with the adults, too. Only a comic of the highest calibre is capable of achieving such a feat”

British Theatre Guide

“BLUE Genie Entertainment have returned to another year at The Playhouse Whitley Bay, this year with Aladdin. As usual the fabulously entertaining Steve Walls returns, this year as Wishee Washee. It’s clear that most of the audience return every year, but it’s down to the way that Steve Walls instantly gets the audience onside with his warm engaging personality making this panto such a hit”

Teesdale Mercury

“Steve Walls is simply fantastic as Simple Simon - funny and engaging in character and when interacting with the young audience members who come up on stage at the end to sing and dance. He has some cracking jokes for the grown-ups too - my favourite being the earwig one.”

Chronicle Live

“Back on stage for an eighth year running, local lad Steve Walls once again anchors the production as Buttons. Walls in panto is fast becoming just as much of a Whitley Bay institution as St Mary's Lighthouse - and he shines just as brightly as the loveable character who hopes to win the heart of Cinderella”

Sunderland Echo

“Largely it’s thanks to the brilliant Steve Walls as Muddles, in his sixth year here by the coast. He simultaneously plays big brother to the young audience and wise-cracking best mate to the unashamedly seasoned adult crowd, and came into his own at the weekend when going off-script.”

Chronicle Live

“Steve Walls was a hugely likeable and down-to-Earth Buttons. Watching Walls interact with the lucky youngsters who got to go on stage was a delight and performers like him, make the art of panto look very easy”

Manchester Evening News

“The whole show is held together by Steve Walls, this year playing Buttons. His rapport with the audience is a masterclass, as the one liners come thick and fast, with plenty for the adults as well as the children. The pantomime at The Playhouse, Whitley Bay has now become a traditional part of the Christmas festivities for many, and it is not hard to see why, especially with the talented Steve Walls at the helm it is as slick a pantomime as you will see this season”

Theatre Blogspot

“This is where the Playhouse productions excel - and central again to this is North East comedian Steve Walls, back for the fifth year, this time playing Idle Jacque. He gets most of the best jokes and is pivotal to the best routines. Once again he displays great timing and ad-libbing. It is no surprise the producers have already signed him up for next year”

Chronicle Live

“Into the mix is Cinderella's best friend Buttons. Steve Walls invites the audience to join his gang and he keeps the energy, and jokes, flowing. It is down to Steve's skill that he makes this role look so easy. His charming encouragement of the audience and ability to whip them up if they appear to be losing their excitement is natural. It is always a joy to see him work an audience and pull the show together”

North East Theatre Guide

“We luckily got to meet Whitley Bay Playhouse very own Steve Walls before he went backstage. It is his 13th panto at Whitley Bay this year and his 27th panto season so we knew we were in for a treat. He was extremely warm and bubbly just as his character buttons was on stage.”
